Grace Presbyterian Church is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA) and we affirm and profess certain things about who we are
and what we believe. The following, written by Gary W. Demarest is copied from the Presbyterian Church (USA) web site.
Doctrine
While
we Presbyterians don't tell people what they have to believe, we are certainly committed to being forthright in affirming what we
believe. In fact, we have always required some kind of public profession of personal faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, accompanied
by baptism, as the basic requirement for membership, as well as for ordination.
The opening words of our Form of Government state
our essential belief without ambiguity: "All power in heaven and earth is given to Jesus Christ by Almighty God, who raised Christ
from the dead and set him above all rule and authority, all power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age
but also in that which is to come. God has put all things under the Lordship of Jesus Christ and has made Christ Head of the church,
which is his body."
If you want a church that is unmistakably clear about its belief in the uniqueness and finality of Jesus
Christ as Savior and Lord, perhaps you could be a Presbyterian.
We believe that a church has certain responsibilities before
God and certain responsibilities before human-kind. These are best described in the Book of Order of the Presbyterian Church
(U.S.A.) as the Great Ends of the Church. As Presbyterians we are guided by and dedicated to these six responsibilities:
1.
The proclamation of the gospel for the salvation of humankind.
2. The shelter, nurture and spiritual fellowship
of the children of God.
3. The maintenance of divine worship.
4. The preservation of the truth.
5. The promotion of social righteousness.
6. The exhibition of the Kingdom of Heaven to the world.
This
is only a brief taste of who we are in community with other Presbyterians. We invite you to come and worship with us, to fellowship
with us, and to serve with us as we glorify God and reach out into the world
